Donation
to Hogg Rescue Fund - 2008
For the fifth year running Biker-Gifts has donated
gifts to this worthwhile charity in the Isle of Man.
Hogg Rescue Unit Auction 2007
Hilton Hotel, Douglas - Friday 9th March at 8pm
The Hogg Rescue Unit Auction is to raise funds for the
Phil Hogg Rescue Units & Rob Vine Fund which are
both administered by Chief Medical Officer for the TT
Dr David Stevens - both charities come under the Motorsport
Medicals Services Umbrella.
This auction has been running since 1991 & has always
been held with the support of Jean, David Shirley &
the late Derek Birch at the Imperial Hotel on Douglas
promenade & ably backed up by TT & MGP commentator
Roy Moore as DJ & compere & in recent years
his son Peter.
This year sees a new era with the Birch family recently
leaving the Imperial we have been forced to look for
a new venue, in this we have come up trumps as the General
Manager of The Hilton Hotel, Robert Duncan, has offered
the Shearwater Suite in the hotel to us, which we have
taken. Mr Duncan was very keen to help our fund &
has given us everything we have asked for, for which
we are extremely grateful.
So the Hilton it is on Friday 9th March at 8pm in The
Shearwater Suite.
There are a number of changes to the normal evening,
which we felt was perhaps becoming a little stale, the
main one being we have done away with the buffet which
puts a big hole in our time. This is reflected in the
ticket price which is only £2.50, there will of
course be a good prize on your ticket number as usual.
We will therefore be hoping to start auctioneering
earlier and hopefully we will have the usual number
of items to deal with. We had 176 last year, when we
ran out of time, hence no buffet.
I will also be pre-selling certain items at sensible
prices, again to try & get through the evening at
a reasonable pace.
We will have our raffle of course which I try to make
as good as possible, I still dont know what the girls
in the beauticians make of me when I go for beauty vouchers
!!
We are hopeful that Roy will actually have time this
year to spend some time playing music, which he has
not had the chance to do for a number of years, I might
even have time for a pint after auction.
If anyone can help with items for auction or raffle
i.e. pictures etc we are very grateful, I can be contacted
on 07624 427771 or 01624 620774 or hoggers@manx.net
Thanks go to the following for providing items for the
auction for many years please visit there site worth

website is a virtual museum of his achievements
and is a must for any Mike The Bike™

His son and pit crew called him the "Crazy
Frog"
|
My brother Steve and
I made our 12th visit to the TT races since 1978,
the year Hailwood made his return.
On our first morning, we was having a cup of
tea behind the grandstand and started chatting
to someone wearing a pair of Hailwood-Martini
overalls. His son Paul Owen was competing in a
few of the races and he invited us back to the
pits to see the Hailwood Honda replica he had
built.
The bike was based on a Honda 50cc engine and
built from scrap parts.

This is what makes the TT so special - we are
already booked for the centenary races next year. |
Biker-Gifts
web site is re-launched
The Biker-Gifts web site was
re-launced in April 2006 with a new PayPal shopping
cart and more great products. For ease of navigation
it now utilises drop-down menus so that you can more
easily find that elusive gift.
This is how you might remember
the old site:

Donation
to Hogg Rescue Fund - 2005
For the second year running, Biker-Gifts have donated
TT memorabila to the Phil Hogg Rescue Fund to help raise
money for the Ambulances using during the TT races.
The picture was taken ouside the Imperial Hotel on
Douglas Prom & from left to right are Dr David Stevens
Adminisrator Of Rob Vine Fund & Phil Hogg rescue
Units, Alec Hogg, Shaun Hogg & David Birch from
the Imperial Hotel.

The following letter was written by Shaun Hogg:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the
following people who have once again helped ensure that
the running of Phil Hogg Rescue Units is made easier
due to the overwhelming support received at our annual
auction in February, at the Imperial Hotel on Douglas
Promenade.
This year we had a double bonus with a huge and totally
unexpected donation of £5,600 from our long time
supporters and friends Neil Millar and larger than life
character Hills, who travelled from Aberdeen along with
TT regular Phil Shorty Stewart. The money had been previously
raised by supporters of Neil and his then sidecar driver
Jock Skene (Twin of MGP winner Mick). This was to be
used to fund their attack on the World Superside Championship,
however due to problems unfortunately the boys could
not campaign the championship. This did leave them in
a positon of having a large amount of cash which had
been raised through donations social evenings etc, which
they had to do something with. At a meeting of the committee
behind the fund raising it was suggested by Neil and
Hills the money go to Phil Hogg Rescue. This is an honour
for us considering all the local charities they could
probably have helped and strenghthens the bond our family
have with the Aberdeen folk stretching back to the late
60s when sidecar driver Alastair Lewis first stayed
at my parents hotel.
This link has never been broken with great friend and
Phil's major sponsor Roy Shirlaw still staying with
us and Neil and the guys travelling annually for our
auction. A great set of lads who should be made honorary
Manxmen!
That was the start of our auction so how do you follow
that. It can only get better, which it did. Thanks to
our auction team who we rely on every year; Jean, Shirley,
and David and the Imperial Hotel and all their staff
who give up their time. Roy and Peter Moore, our resident
Djs come MCs as well as the many people who donate items

NRG
racing team comes 12th at IOM TT races
The boys did good !! Once again we made our annual
pilgrimage to the TT, our 10th visit since 1978.
We met up with Nev Jones, driver of the NRG Racing
team who Biker-Gifts are currently sponsoring. The adrenaline
was still pumping around his body following the previous
days racing where Nev and his passenger, Joe Shardlow,
finished 12th in sidecar race A, winning a bronze replica
at a race average speed of 102.9mph.
Sporting a new colour scheme, especially for the TT
the boys did good!!

Easy does it around the Bungalow - if 150mph
is easy !!

A new lap record !! Perhaps not.....

A
day out at the Sammy Miller Museum
The wedding anniversary only happens once a year, so
I thought I would arrange something really special this
year, so I arranged a day out at the Sammy Miller Museum
at New Milton in the New Forest. Well I enjoyed it anyway
!! We couldn't have timed it better, as Sammy was showing
TT riders John McGuinness and Jim Moodie around, so
we tagged on the back. After the tour Sammy delighting
in starting a Moto Guzzi V8 in the courtyard after doing
a demonstration of his riding skills on one of his old
trials bikes.

Sammy Miller gives a chat about
the bikes before demonstrating his wheelie skills
around the courtyard.

|

Sammy shows off his wheelie skills
|
|
|
|

"If Sammy Miller can do it, so can I".
John McGuinness shows that its easy when you
know how.
|
|

Not to be beaten, Jim Moodie has
a go as well.

What a great day out - if you're ever in the New Forest,
don't forget to visit the museum and see the vast collection
of exotica.

Biker-Gifts
acquires Joey Dunlop Crash Helmet
We recently acquired Joey's crash helmet that he used
in the 1994 TT from Eurosport's endurance racing commentator
- Clive McNeil. Back in 1994 he contacted Joey's manager,
Davey Wood, in hope of getting one of his helmets for
his "Wireless for the Blind" fundraiser on
British Forces radio while he was in Hong Kong (he was
doing the Breakfast Show there for 7 years). He didn't
hear anything but under a week later he received the
helmet direct from Davey Wood, a Arai RX7-RRIII signed
in black marker pen by Joey. He also received helmets
from Eddie Laycock, Steve Hislop, Sean Emmett and Didier
de Radigues. At that time he was also the "colour"
commentator on Star TV in Asia along with Jonathan Green,
covering the WSB and GP's.
Since coming back to the UK, Clive covers the World
Endurance and Master of Endurance commentary on Eurosport,
along with all the interviews, programme script etc.
on the WEC for FGSPORT Group. He says "I interviewed
Joey on the island 3 times - each time I didn't understand
a word he said, but still used the interviews".
Clive's family live on the Island, his mother used to
do all the updates in German on Manx Radio for the German
tourists (they all knew her as "Danke Peter").
Anyway, Joey's helmet arrived still with flies on the
visor...since cleaned, and is in pristine condition,
as it's always been stored with silica gel to keep moisture
away.
Clive recently got in contact with Davey Wood while
he was in hospital and spoke to him about the helmet.
Although it was 10 years ago, Davey could remember it
very well, it is apparently only one of a few Joey helmets
that have come into the public domain. It is a very
small size, and I certainly cannot get it on my head,
but Joey apparently had a very small head size and his
helmets had to be especially made at a cost of over
£900 each. Davey Wood passed away in hospital
recently after a short illness and motorcycling lost
one of its ambassadors to the sport.
BIKER-GIFTS
SPONSERS NRG racing F2 Sidecar Team
Biker-Gifts is pleased to announce that we are helping
sponsor a Sidecar outfit competing in the the Formula
2 of the National Championships.
Driver Nev Jones and passenger Joe Shardlow have been
competing in Formula 2 sidecar racing for two full seasons,
taking part in the ACU/FSRA National championship.
In 2002, they finished 19 th overall on a Shelbourne
Honda 600cc outfit, 4th in the Intermediate class, and
were awarded the FSRA Committee Cup for Most Promising
Newcomers to the National Series.
During 2003, a switch to new Kawasaki 600cc engines,
saw them rise to 7th overall, 2nd in the Intermediate
class. They picked up two International Bikesport News
“Performance of the Meeting” awards and
had a highest finish of 5th .
A debut appearance at the Isle of Man TT races saw
them finish 19th and 29th, 18th overall. Narrowly missing
out on a 100mph lap in front of over 30,000 spectators
and satellite TV, they were awarded the Fastest Newcomers
trophy, Best Overall Newcomers award and the Dennis
Blower trophy.
They also won the North East MCRC Open (up to 1200cc)
club championship and had
2nd & 4th place finishes at the Cock O' the North
meeting, at the notorious Oliver's Mount road circuit.
Further improvements during the winter have strengthened
their challenge, and after Round 1 of the 2004 National
championship, they are lying 3rd in the points after
achieving their first rostrum finish at this level.
They are also currently leading the NEMCRC open championship
after deciding to defend their title.
SILVERSTONE
HISTORIC DAY - AUG'2001
Silverstone Historic Day was when it all started for
Biker-Gifts. The official Mike Hailwood clock was released
to the public with a few of the other licensees to the
Estate, including Nigel and Sarah from Pin-Ashe, suppliers
of pin badges. We helped Pauline and David Hailwood
look after the "Mike The Bike" stand during
the racing, but on the previous day I spent the afternoon
in the pits chatting to David, who would be demonstrating
his Dad's BSA Rocket 3 during the weekend. While I was
with David, he took delivery of his new set of leathers
and crash helmet, identical to those used by Mike in
the 1978 Isle of Man TT races. I had the opportunity
to take the following photographs.

David sits on the BSA Rocket 3 for the first
time.
